- Event Description: From currants, to roses, azaleas, lupines, and irises, over 50 hard-to-find native species are available at near-wholesale prices through the Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District’s annual event to be held THIS upcoming Saturday and Sunday, December 7th and 8th. Gardening with native plants allows green thumbs to work with species adapted for our region’s unique climate, soils, and wildlife with relatively low water needs beyond initial establishment.
Native plants in home gardening provide countless insects, bees, butterflies, local and migrating birds, amphibians, and small mammals the nectar, seeds, shelter, and habitat structure they need to thrive. Not only does increasing native plant diversity attract wildlife to your green space, but it also increases variation in flowering time, color, and structural interest for year-round enjoyment.
