Partners
Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District partners with many organizations and agencies associated with natural resources. The following are just a few of the more prominent of these valuable relationships.
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
Soil and Water Conservation Districts have formed a close working bond with the NRCS. The staff of the NRCS provide technical assistance to local land managers, SWCDs, and many other entities. The NRCS has a staff of technical specialists in many different fields to aid in solving a wide range of natural resouce problems. In Lincoln County, NRCS staff coordinate management of programs and technical assistance with LSWCD. |
MidCoast Watersheds Council
Watershed councils are nonprofit organizations formed as a result of the 1990's Oregon Plan for Salmon initiative, with the goal of restoring watershed function and salmon populations across Oregon. They are local workgroups made up of residents of their watersheds. They coordinate outreach, landowner participation, watershed assessments, and on-the-ground restoration of habitat. Much of the work watershed councils do is similar to the mission of SWCD's and are therefore often well-established partners. Lincoln County is the home of the MidCoast Watersheds Council, which works in the watersheds of the Salmon, Siletz, Yaquina, Alsea, and Yachats Rivers as well as several smaller coastal creeks. They work with a wide variety of partners and working groups to address the unique needs of each basin. More about their work can be found at midcoastwatersheds.org. |
Lincoln County
Though we are not a Lincoln County agency, we do work closely with staff from various departments involving natural resources, including Public Works, Engineering, and Environmental Services. In addition, the Lincoln SWCD provides information to the Lincoln County commissioners to keep them informed of our activities and achievements. |
Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA)
The Natural Resources program at ODA provides organizational support to every SWCD in Oregon. ODA provides assistance opportunities from other state and federal agencies, provides administrative grant assistance, assists with district funding strategy, and is responsible for reviewing all projects, practices, budgets, contracts or regulations of districts. Additional information can be found here. |
Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW)
Lincoln SWCD partners with the regional (Mid Coast Basin) ODFW office on restoration projects and monitoring. Lincoln SWCD's Watershed Restoration Program often collaborates and partners with the ODFW Restoration Biologist and other technical staff on restoration projects. Our Spawning Survey Program works directly with the Mid Coast District Biologist to determine priority spawning surveys annually. |
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
DEQ is tasked with implementing Federal Clean Water Act guidelines in order to protect and improve Oregon's water quality. Protecting Oregon's rivers, lakes, streams and groundwater quality keeps these waters safe for a multitude of beneficial uses such as drinking water, fish habitat, recreation and irrigation. DEQ is responsible for supporting Lincoln SWCD's Water Quality Monitoring Program. |
Oregon State University Extension Service, Lincoln CountyOregon State University's Extension Service provides education and information based on current research to help Oregonians solve problems and develop skills related to youth, family, community, farm, forest, energy, and marine resources.
