Partners

Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District partners with many organizations and agencies associated with natural resources. The following are just a few of the more prominent of these valuable relationships.

Natural Resources Conservation Service, NRCS
Soil and Water Conservation Districts have formed a close working bond with the NRCS. The staff of the NRCS provide technical assistance to local land managers, SWCDs, and many other entities. The NRCS has a staff of technical specialists in many different fields to aid in solving a wide range of natural resouce problems. In Lincoln County the NRCS staff share office space with the Lincoln SWCD and coordinate management of programs and technical assistance.

Watershed Councils

Watershed councils are nonprofit organizations that have been formed as a direct result of the 1990's Oregon Plan for Salmon initiative to restore watershed function and salmon populations across Oregon. Watershed councils are local groups often focusing their efforts on an individual watershed. They coordinate outreach and landowner participation and are a major conduit for watershed assessments and on the ground restoration focusing on salmon and associated habitat. Much of the work Watershed Councils do is synonymous with the mission of SWCD's and are therefore often well established partners. Lincoln County has four active watershed councils, one (Midcoast Watersheds Council) of which bases their operations at the District Office, in Newport.

groundwater quality keeps these waters safe for a multitude of  beneficial uses such as drinking water, fish habitat,
recreation and irrigation. DEQ is responsible for supporting Lincoln SWCD's Water Quality Monitoring Program.

Their mission is carried out by extending the research knowledge base of the University to local people who need the information and providing leadership in applying this knowledge to the problems people have identified. OSU Extension provides nonformal education that meets the needs of Oregonians and contributes significantly to strong individuals, families and communities; a vibrant economy; and sustainable natural resources. Lincoln SWCD partners with the local OSU Extension offices for workshops, outreach events, and trainings.
